I guess I'll get the ball rolling! I just found out I have been suffering from mild depression since...you guessed it...my separation. I take an alternative product called St Johns Wart which is known in Australia as the "natural Prozac". It's great stuff and has worked wonders for me. I first started taking it last October and then felt comfortable coming off it in January. However, have just re-started it again as things have been tough most recently. I never really thought I had depression, just thought the things I was going through was "stress" along with the rigours of being a single mum. I've read a few self-help books and found Lousie Hay and Dr Phil quite helpful. I stay sane through friends and exercise and I can almost always find the funny in things. I have a very strong support base and that is essential. I know there is a lot more I could do to help with my self-improvement and it's something that I'm working on and take very seriously. I believe everything happens for a reason and also that people come into our lives for a purpose, whatever that purpose may be. I also believe that you are never given more than you can handle and that this journey that I am on will make me a better, happier and healthier person. |

Woobabe,
Thank you for sharing, your beliefs make for an optimistic outlook in life! As for St John's Wort, I tried it too, but haven't noticed much results. What dosage were you using? How can you tell if it's working? Andy |

Well, my symptoms weren't too bad, mostly just trouble getting to sleep at night (ie trying to get the mind to shut down), tired, rundown etc. The dose I'm on is 2000mg (or 2grams depending on what measurements are used in the country your in) which helps relax me and lets me sleep at night. I didn't realise they came in different doses until I unknowingly bought a box of 1.8g and noticed I still couldn't get to sleep - once I realised they came in 1.8, 2.0 and 2.7 then I thought a-ha! The 2.0 works well for me. I can tell its working for me because (as I said above) I get to sleep easier, my thoughts are a little clearer in my head and I'm more relaxed (especially with my boys - mind you, they would test the patience of a saint!). I'm not a big fan of introducing chemicals into your body unless absolutely necessary so I'm happy I found this alternative. I hope you find a dosage that works for you. |

I din't realize they had different dosages either. I have taken it before and it didn't do much for me. I should try a higher dose. Thanks Woo!
