Good point breezit, don't know what I was thinking. Assumptions.

I'm sorry, but did you folks read the same book as I did? I am a huge Dean Koontz fan but this book was extremely disapointing. Dean seems to be phoning it in these days. The Darkest Evening of the Year was a supreme waste of paper and ink.

***SPOILERS***
The characters were all either uber-evil or uber-whimpy, no in between. I was very excited about Nickie the wonder dog...she seemed mysterious and had an inner depth missing from Koont's animals since Watchers but he didn't develop that mystery. It was just flat.

And the ending. The conflict was over in about 4 pages with a ridiculously stupid ending to boot. It's like Dean starting writing this very readable book and then he got bored with the whole thing and wrapped it up quickly. The only character worth caring about was Hope_Piggy. There was also some mystery around her that never really developed.

Calls from dead nuns, a horrific past, secrets kept and revealed, amazing animals...all staple of the Dean Koontz novels. This one had 'em but the story still failed.

Wake up Dean...instead of cranking out three okay books a year, why don't you focus on one excellent one!

I wouldn't say it was that bad, though I'd agree it's not his best.

Spoilers...

I actually liked the ending, the idea of Amy's daughter returning to protect and save two other girls from her own fate was heartwarming. Though I wish the death Micheal and Vannesa had been a little more satisfying.

SPOILERS*****************************

Yeah I liked the ending too. I mean, that was the whole purpose of Nicki being there; anything less would have been a letdown.
DK gets criticized a lot for killing off his villians too quickly. That's just what he does. I think it's part of the message that evil is not as powerful as it seems.
