Hi. I am a twenty-one year old college student who was diagnosed with depression two years ago. I was initially put on Paxil, but after a few months I thought I was alright, so I came off of it. Two months later, I relapsed, and went on Lexapro. I have been on a 10-mg dosage of Lexapro ever since. However, two weeks ago I decided to come off of it. Then a week ago, I broke up with the guy I had been exclusive with for almost a year. The breakup had absolutely nothing to do with the medication! I had known that it was coming for quite a while. Though I am grieving a lot, I feel that I am doing reasonably well for having just ended my first real relationship. I think maybe I am well now. Maybe I am no longer depressed. The problem is that I can find no literature about how to know when you are no longer depressed. I have taken some of the online quizzes to see if I am depressed, and they all come back with the result that I may be mildly depressed. I believe that this may be simply because I am still heart-broken. Do any of you know how to tell if I am still depressed? I need to know before school starts back in a few weeks. If you have any information, I would be most appreciative! |

Maybe you should go consult a professional or a clsc nurse and tell them exactly what you just said here. I know some people who were clinically depressed and came out of it with the medication. When they came out of it, they didn't need the medication anymore. So maybe you are getting better and soon you wont have to wonder if you are depressed or not. You went from clinically depressed to mildly depressed so it sounds to me you are climbing up the ladder. That's just my oppinion, hopes it helps...

They say not to go off the medication by yourself, even if you feel better. Talk to the person who prescribed it, and maybe they'll give you continuously lower dosages until you don't need the meds at all. |
