I voted yes, his numbers speak for themselves. And I believe he will get in, but perhaps not on the first ballot because the writers who vote will want to teach him a lesson.

Apparently, Pete Rose also thinks McGuire should get a pass. But that isn't really surprising, is it?

Maybe I'm the only one with an interest in this.

But after the whole mess, the right two guys got inducted, no matter what McGuire says.

The unfortunate thing about it all, at least to me, was the ammount of time all the sports writers and commentators spent talking about the wrong guy. The fact that McGuire got "snubbed" seemed to be more of a talking point that the positive fact that the two guys who got in absolutely deserved to be there.

Here you have two baseball legends in there own time, in Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken, who were not known necessarily as "sluggers" (although Ripken did re-invent the shortstop position by hitting for power before moving to third base later in his career). And just as importantly, Ripken and Gwynn are an anomoly in the free agent era, when great hitters move from team to team because their agents tell them to go where the money is. Gwynn and Ripken could very well be the last two guys inducted into the Hall who spent their entire careers with just one team (with the possible future exception of Derek Jeter). There is something to be said about that as well.

But no. All anyone wanted to talk about was McGuire.

Hopefully, in July when the induction ceremonies are held in Cooperstown, the sports writers will get it right, and give Ripken and Gwynn their due. If not, then they should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm also interested. It's just such a long walk here thru all the now-dead moped and personal-freedom forums. Seen DonP lately?
Ask me about DEAN KOONTZ Forum T-shirts. Cool.
