Today I opened a LOG (extension) file using KEDIT and its default settings (it's always had as far as I recall) and I get the display as seen in the first cutout image provided. For my intended purposes there's nothing useful there for me to see. That's my problem, but I'm thinking there is some set command in KEDIT that will rectify that. I'll admit after all this time, what is probably obvious to most of you, that I remain a very elementary user of KEDIT. I have some scattered knowledge on the global change command, formatting columns, so what I needed I learned and that's about it. Generally I like the way KEDIT displays, and it's my tool of choice when working with (or just looking at) files with these extensions LOG, BAT, TXT, CSV, and other simple files like the HOSTS file (that's kept in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) which has no extension, but again KEDIT lets me do what I need. I've set it as the default application to open LOG files, so on a double-click I received the result shown on top of the image supplied. For all my purposes over the many years KEDIT has never opened a LOG file and not displayed text or mostly TXT and some occasional special characters. For that reason I was surprised with the unreadable (for my purposes) sample, this has never happened before. As a matter of curiosity I opened the same LOG file with NOTEPAD and I received not only readable text, but rudimentary spacing and formatting, it was readable, the lower part of the supplied file shows that. Can someone tell me what SET or other command I can use in KEDIT to make it present to me as NOTEPAD did, readable text?
Thanks. The image may be seen at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3a6zr6efvfgk2d/kedit.jpg?dl=0 |
