1st Robin Hobb book.

One of the great fantasists of our time. Robin Hobb's first book sets up a world that will hook any George R.R. Martin fan. It has character depth and the intrigue, which is all that is needed, but it also has more. It has magic that makes sense. The only thing it doesn't have, is a third person point of view. This is amended in the second trilogy by Hobb. Highly recommended to fantasy fans looking for something outside of Tolkien.
"It had to be said. The world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing." - Howard Roark

Sounds like a strong review of Hobb, I'll have to give her work a try ASAP.

I actually have Bujold's Curse of Chalion on audiobook, I'll be curious to know what kauldron26 thinks of it.
