When does the REM stage of sleep come? I need to know because for that amount of time I'll have a blank tape recording nothing for that period of time. But then I'll whisper into it. "You are dreaming!". answer needed asap. thanx

There are 5 stages of sleep, stages 1-4 are non REM and the last stage is REM. It differs from person to person, suppose the only way you can really find out is to go to sleep, and get someone to check when you go into REM sleep by watching your eyes. Not a very scientific way, but it beats splashing out for a novadreamer or some sort of ecg This cycle then repeats - each time the REM stage gets longer, the final one lasts about an hour (so typically people would have about 4-5 cycles a night). So my advise if you are going to make a tape is to wait until the REM periods have lengthened, about 6 hours after you have gone to sleep would probably do it, then you dont have the tape playing all night through the NON-REM stages and shorter REM stages Note, that after stages 3 and 4, stages, we then go through 3 and 2 backwards. ie. 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2 the REM. |
