my gosh, humans are so selfish. I bet tehy assume that if someone is of middle or upper class, then they are mkore worthy than the lower class ones, where to be toatlly honest, most of the poor people have more class personality-wise. Many people who were once poor are now rich and famous. Why not giev them a chance?

I like to watch Scarborough Country in the evenings on msnbc and he was talking about this...

For the rest of us who are safely out of Rita's path, we are left worrying about the future of an America whose leaders seem so ill equipped to handle the greatest of disasters...

he also wondered why in N.Y.every firefighter showed up to work during the dreadful collase of the towers, they new Rudy Guilliani(sp?) would not of had it any other way, but in the Gulf Coast the percentage of community workers(police, firefighters, airport employees...) that did not show up to work, who abandoned their community was higher than those that did stay and do their job...President Bush condoned their decision to flee.

Is this the best our politicians can do four years after 9/11?

it's a different things to go fight a fire and deal with a collapsed building than it is to leave your family to flee by themselves why you stay behind to face waves that were estimated to hit at 30-35 ft. storm surge estimates are way down now as it loses strength but if it had come in like they were talking 2 days ago. there is no helping anyone. everything and everyone would just be gone. and it's happened before in galveston, everyone that lives there knows that. we all grow up with stories and pictures of what happened in the 1900 storm.

but yes the homeland security agency created post 9/11 was also supposed to address natural disaster and it hasn't done much of anything. makes you wonder how prepared it would be if it was a terrorist disaster. we've spent billions if not trillions but we still can't do very basic things. cuba is better equipped to deal with hurricanes than we are. they got ripped by Ivan last year, they had 0 or 1 death in all of Cuba because they were so mobilized that the military got EVERYONE to higher ground before it hit. And they got hit early on when the Ivan first hit a category 4. They also offered I think 25 doctors that were trained and equipped to deal with post-hurricane situations, the day after Katrina hit. They were turned down. But that's a whole other can of worms...

I think the mistake a lot of us make is that the state-appointed shrink is our friend!

Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me? Then, it wouldn't seem so funny.

okay for those who think bush is responsible for all americas problems...say aye?....grow up and read about american government!!!!!

presidents only have limited power. there are three branches to our government. hte president is only one of them. so if you blame anyone, blame the congress. they make the final decisions around here!!! sheesh!!!

let's just say that our government can never work as it is intended to because congress and presidents propose legislation, vote on legislation, etc. not based on what they truly believe is right but rather on what their political party thinks will get them the best advantage, what will help them raise funds to get reelected, etc.
i'm not saying that every politician is corrupted by the way politics is done, but I couldn't name you one that hasn't been twisted by those influences either. no text book will tell you that, but if you read other books or really pay attention to what's going on, you'll figure it out soon enough.

I wish a robot would get elected president. That way, when he came to town, we could all take a shot at him and not feel too bad.

um you mean he can't do things like hand over no-bid contracts for reconstruction in New Orleans to Halliburton without anyone's approval? because he did just that. when congress is already supposedly investigating them for vast overchargings in their Iraq contracts.
yes there are checks and balances but there are many things that can be done outside of that system. he can make war for 30 days I think it is without congressional approval. he's done that. once you're 30 days into a war is Congress going to say oh no mr. president you shouldn't do that, pull everyone out - not likely. the concept of checks and balances is an overarching concept of how the government works but if you look into the nitty gritty details, the numerous loopholes, the president still has vast powers to do many things.

I wish he could talk to us without cue cards and not fumble his words when he does try, maybe I would then give him the benifit of the doubt that he has ideas of his own.

Yes if he truly had to pass everything with Congresses approval, he would be just a figure head, another congressman trying to push his agenda through. Which means Congress would have such power that the executive branch (pres.) would no longer be a check & balance to them. i'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but the whole truth isn't what they teach you in a high school textbook.

damn staright
i hate the wanker, i know why he invaded iraq, and oil is only a small bonus in comparison. one, he gets control over a country. two, he gets paid 80 billion dollars to do it. 80 billion that should have been paid to soldiers, and reuilding costs, etc. he gets a further x billion per month simply for staying in control and keeping everything *normal* by government standards.

bush wouldnt sign up for the kyoto agreement simply because america ( not meaning you guys, i mean the governement k? ) made the whole in the atmosphere. they tested nukes up in the upper stratosphere, and on huge peices of desert. that ripped out the atmosphere, and also thats why there are huge radiation testing zones out in the desert.

those are only two things that happened whilst bush was ( and is ) in power. the incident with the towers... dont get me started... just fold up a dollar into two halves, that is, fold each side like a paper aeroplane. then fold the corners up at the bottom...

wat do ya get...

bipadeebopadeebooooo!
