Hey gemtaur-what does that mean-gemtaur? I've seen you in Dean Koontz, whom I love. But I am a collector of Anne.  She is wonderfully descriptive with her characters.  I will never get sick of rereading her, she has a style of her own.  It's tragic that's she's through  with the vampires and witches.

gemini on the cusp with taurus. on the cusp means born within 3 days of when the signs change, and supposedly you're influenced by the other sign somewhat too. it is very sad that there will be no more vamps and witches. i'm still hoping maybe she'll go back to ramses the damned and do a sequel to that one.

Oh it'll be a long time till I get at her novels. After Anita Blake and Gabaldon, at least a year maybe longer!

Violin certainly is worth reading, as is servant of the bones.

The Sleeping Beauty books are an acquired taste. I like them but they aren't my favorites.

Violin is EXCELLENT, came in the midst of a bunch of crappier novels, but this one surprised me with its beauty. Servant of the Bones, I loved all the stuff set in the past, but the present-day storyline left me bored.

Whilst being an avid reader, I can't say that I am a fan of Anne Rice. I tried reading her books once but found them boring. She has a tendancy to emasculate her male characters, turning them from the monsters they should be into wimps fawning over the female characters. Sorry not for me. I like my vampire stories to have real bite.

These are a different type of vampire, which at the time of Interview's release was quite bold and different. That said, not for everyone, but I appreciated a little something different in a genre that has been done to death. Of course, since then Anne Rice's type of vampire has been done to death too, including by Anne herself.

Is VIOLIN one of the chronicles, or a standalone?

It's a stand alone, not a vampire novel at all but a haunting(pardon the pun) ghost story. Actually the only one of her later books that I thought was truly exceptional.

For Vampire story's you should try Brian Lumleys, Necroscope series, the Vampires are truly monstrous and you should also read Peter Straubs Ghost Story, it is brilliant, read it years ago and it is still one of my favourite books.

I rarely read vampire fiction anymore. Devoured it in my younger days, but now it all seems to have been done to death. I feel zombies are getting that way now.

I've tried Ghost story bofore but couldn't get into it. Straub's writing style sometimes puts me off. I keep hearing such praise for it, and I have loved a few of Straub's books, so I'm sure I'll give it another go sometime.

I finished Ghost Story, but it was not an easy read.

Straub's style is very detached to me, which keeps me OUTSIDE the story if that makes sense. i'm never as invested as I could be.

If you see a cheap copy of Violin anywhere, breezit, I recommend you give it a try.

I completely agree, vampires have been done to death. I try to pick up new vamp fiction and just can't get into it. I will always love Anne's chronicles, I am so sad that she's stopped writing them. Poppy Z Brite was amazing too. I miss the days when I was so absorbed with vampire books.

Ghost Story was okay. I could not get into Shadowland no matter how hard I tried. I've not given up on Straub though, just haven't found the book to grab me yet.

i do agree that vampire books dont really do it for me anymore, but i brought the book The Historian and i loved it from beginning to end, no other vampire book could come close to the vampire chronicles for me though, in my opinion it beats Dracula hands down.
