ive just read on the other forum  a post about lost keys and steering locks.

is undoing that small screw on the steering lock barrell all thats needed to remove the lock? ive tried on mine (as i dont have a key) and i just cant budge it. It will spin around, but not come out DANG! .

my guess is that the key is required also to remove it as i cant get the lock ou of the spare forks that i have either (yup, you guessed it, no keys for that sucker either)

If it's anyting like my Puch, you have to drill the sucker until it gives out and falls off.  It's only copper or something.

Hi, I purchased a brand new 2001 Tomos Targa LX this past summer, and after riding about 1500km, the steering lock just fell out. Just like that. No vandalism or anything. I contacted Tomos Canada and they said that they would cover me, although I haven't had any further contact from them regarding this.

BTW, my panels have all started to crack and all the screws fall out.

It is cold here. And the riding season very short. Good thing I have a moped.

andy, did you take the set screw out completely? if not, that may be whats holding it in. everyone has problems with those plastic panels. my 2000 lx's are fine tho. :)

could there be some rust spots inside the cylinder, maybe holding it up?, that you can't see?

just a thought andy.

Put a fairing on and maybe a set of leather saddle bags and you'll say "Life is hard but it's good".

yeah, it sounds as though something is "holding it"
