We have upgraded the forum software from version 7 to version 8. There's a bunch of new features - for starters, forum will now keep track of people's birthdays, there are new emotes/avatars, etc.

Please feel free to explore and let Donp or me know if you encounter any issues.

I really like this new version. Thanks for upgrading!

A few questions: 1. In the quick reply box, when you click on the smiley it doesn't do anything. Also if you click on the Forum Codes link it doesn't do anything either. What is up with that? 2. Does the forum no longer allow a user to host images?

Edit: Also, it won't let you jump pages. It only lets me go to the next page in the thread or in the forum.

Edit: Or jumping forums.

I like the look, it's really cool, but I also wonder about the same thing christophersnow has asked.

there are some bugs we need to fix up and some tweaking that needs to be done yet. keep letting us know what changes need to be addressed. everything is laid out a little differently from the old version, so its gonna take us a few days to get everything figured out.
moderators: let me know if you do not have moderator access to your old forums. permissions all got messed up during the move.

Christophersnow,

I check jumping pages, it seems to work for me, you do this by selecting a page number from the pulldown list. Forum jumped worked too. Do you get an error?

The smiley in Quick Reply opened a new window and allowed me to pick one. It may not work if you have a popup blocker (for example Google Toolbar).

Forum Codes opens a new window too. This does sound like a popup blocker, you should be able to configure the blocker to allows popups from this site.

As for hosting images, what problem are you expreriencing?

Jen,

I'll look into this, could be an option I can change.

Hey Andy, about ten minutes after I posted my questions, all of them got fixed. I assumed it was either you or Donp who did it. Forum and page jumping is working, which makes life a lot easier. I was blatantly looking for bugs just to point them out so you fellows could fix them.

Thanks

Edit: I've seen this problem a few time. On http://dkoontz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9745 - this thread , it says the topic starter is Paolo Macachor. When you click on it though, it is Lshanefan1, who is the rightful starter. It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, just thought I would point it out. I saw it a couple of other places as well.

Chris,

Ok, I see the issue with topic starter, will look into it.

As for image upload, it seems to be permission-related, I'll check it out too.

Chris,

I've been looking into the topic starter issue - looks like that particular thread is a little wacky. The person who posted last message in in it is listed as starter. The one who posted message before last is listed as last poster.

I guess we can let it slide, if it's just that one thread. Please let me know if you see more problems like that though.

I don't know much about computers, but this problem doesn't seem like one that will do much harm.

I've also seen the same problem http://dkoontz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9447&PN=1 - here , http://dkoontz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5547&PN=1 - here , http://dkoontz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8465&PN=1 - here , and http://dkoontz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8689&PN=1 - here

Posting in that thread seems to eliminate the problem. It also seems to happen to old threads or longer threads.

Why is there all the extra space between the post text and the signature?

The new search engine is probably my favorite feature.

The RSS feed configuration needs some work. It's giving a local machine link instead of fully qualified links.

I found that in the PM, the emoticon button doesn't open the emoticons...and, the page skip pull-down menu doesn't seem to work....you have to hit the <<Prev or Next>> buttons to jump pages.
And yeah, its about that RSS feed..... :)
Emoticon button not working here either. :(

I just had a lot of problems logging in, which has never happened before because I just save the forum location while I was logged in with cookies enabled and it remembers me, but I assume the forum upgrades caused this problem for others as well.

The actual login error given to me was a tracking error, which accused me of not having cookies enabled or trying to mask my IP address from the server.

How did I get back in? Well, I just logged in from a different location within the site, meaning I just went down to another forum an clicked the login button from there. Don't ask me why that worked, but it did. I expect some bugs, like the fact that the Film Forum is listed twice in the index, so this was no big deal.

I just thought I should share this in case others are experiencing the same thing.

Whitewolf,

Could you PM me the exact text of the error message if it happens again? This way I will be able to look up what caused it.

Jen,

Yes, the Quick reply is a simplified dialog, so it doesn't have some features. I can check to see whether it's hard to enable image upload there.

I have added the First/Last buttons, so you can easily jump to the beginning/end of thread if the pulldown menu is acting up.

in any message, you should be able to type [-IMG]then put the url[/-IMG](but leave out the -'s) and the image should show in your post. that is unless this new format uses a different code.

I noticed Jen was having an issue so I'm just posting this to make sure it workds for me. As she said, sometimes you just need a dancing banana.

And I don't know about you, but this guy can really bust a move!

The "Quick Reply" box doesn't have much of anything in it, but if you click on the "Post Reply" button just below it, it has everything you're looking for.

This is strange, could you send me the link to the page where you see duplicate forums? When I go to main page, I don't see dups.

ok, i fixed the acrobat reader problem i was having. it turns out that my kids installed acrobat reader 3 over top of acrobat reader 5, numerous times. i removed about 5 versions of it and now everything works fine.
