For those of you Harry Potter fans around here, I found this interesting little nugget at SciFi Wire:

Potter Park Due At Universal Orlando

Warner Brothers and Universal Orlando Resort are partnering to create The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a "theme park within a theme park" based on the hit book and film franchise, at the Islands of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort. The attraction is expected to open in late 2009.

Inspired by J.K. Rowling's stories and characters and faithful to the visual landscapes of the films, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will enable guests to visit some of the most iconic locations found in the books and the films, including the village of Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and Hogwarts castle.

The new environment will also feature rides and interactive attractions, as well as experiential shops and restaurants. The park will also incorporate a "state-of-the-art attraction that will bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in an exciting way that guests have never before experienced," the companies said.

Stuart Craig, the Oscar-winning production designer on the Harry Potter movies, leads the creative design for the area to ensure it remains faithful to the look and feel of the films. The fifth film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opens July 11.

I've heard a bit about this interesting idea. All I'm really interested in are the books. But if it gets kids excited and gets them reading...

If its anything like the books or the movies, and its fun for people, then I say go for it. I for one will check it out next time I go to florida. I read the Harry potter books and love them, also love the movies. So it should be fun. And like Chris said, if it gets people to read the books, then its well worth it.
Just finished reading House of Thunder by Dean Koontz. I am so glad I am finally done with it. I am currently reading Fear Nothing, and I got to say I love it so far!

I can't remember if I've posted this before but:

My wife works for a chocolate company (very small 6 employees or so) that makes a lot of the items sold in the candy stores inside the Universal Orlando theme parks.

They recently contacted her and let her know that the Universal execs needed them to "create" all of the candy that Rowling invented for the books. So they made samples of all of these fictional candies...I can't remember everything off the top of my head, but they definitely made treacle fudge and strawberry cordials.

Anyway, Universal people were going to Scotland to meet with J.K. Rowling about this theme park and so my wife had to overnight Harry Potter candy that they created to Scotland because Rowling wanted to sample and approve it all to go into the parks.

I thought that was pretty cool!!
