Just curious as to what everyone thinks on the sticky subject that is parenting in todays world, do's and dont's and what not, whatever yall would like..

I'll start off with corperal punishment, wow that sounds evil, how bout spanking in general, whats everyones thought on this age old corrective measure,
and please, if you regularly beat your child because he/she spilt their milk, there is no need to post, just walk out in highway traffic. you will thank me later...

I would sometimes spank my 6-year old, just once on the bottom, if he gets too wild and doesn't listen to words. Not really to punish but to get his attention.
Also I slap my 2-year old on the wrist, mostly just with one finger, if she does something especially destructive or dangerous.
Again, it's just something different to show I'm very serious, and it gets their attention immediately. Of course, then they cry and I have to hug them, but the point still stands.

the worst thing to ever happen in this and any other country was the redmoval of spanking as a form of discipline. i'm not one who enjoys spanking my kids, but they do need it from time to time. and the funny part is, their teachers even agree wqith me.
i do not believe in this time out crap. it just don't work. and as far as these diagneses of add or adhd, i think that is the thing of thhe 90's. i agree that my 9 year old son has the signs of adhd. he is very hyper, swears like a truck driver, and just plain talks back and refuses to listen. but once he gets a good swat, he straightens right up. i don't believe in medicating young kids whose minds are still growing and developing. and that seems to be every doctors cure for every problem.
most of us as adults grew up with spanking and we turned out just fine. but when my kids do something wrong where they deserve a good spank, i really hate it when they say to me "spank me dad and i'm gonna call the cops on you". thats when i use the phone to spank them. then i hand them the phone and ask them if they still want to call the cops. they aolways answer no because they know they will get another swat.
one thing i never do is swat them more than 3 times. after 3, your doing it for your own pleasure. and i never hit them hard enough to physically hurt them. usually it's just enough to let them know i'm serious.
ny dad used rubber hose, 2x4's, metal rods, broom handles, or anything he could find that would leave a mark and hurt like hell. i swore i would never bew like him. but a swat once in a while is needed. not every day like i used to get.

I agree totally AttentionDeficitDisorder or AttentionDeficit HypheractivityDisorder is a "technical" name for naughty children.
I work with Kids and have done for 11 years. I know of one kid who takes Ritalin, whose parents are (tongue-in-cheek) useless!
I have two kids of my own and luckily they are not bad kids. I am a teacher and I have (on occasion) slapped my child's hand when needed. ( and at times have wanted to throw them threw the nearest window).
