The first two were more kiddish, but they got so much deeper and darker and adult. You are really missing out if you stop at 2.

The first 2 were so close to the movies that it made them a bit more boring. Once you get to POA it changes it up a bit and you really start to get attached to the characters.
You really should try.
With luck my patience will never run out before I do

Having recently read the series for the first time, I agree. If you can make it past the first two, you're in for a great time, as the books just get better (and darker, and more adult) with each one.

The third one for me was where the book started taking a darker, more interesting turn, but it was book four where I realized just how powerful what Rowling had created truly was.
