Who is Chrichton?

Brother Odd will be the only one I get. I'll be looking out for the other two at my library.

Do you think I would like Orson Scott Card?

I'm sure NEXT will have the same high-assed concept that Crichton always has....

but after knowing Koontz we realize that high concept is incomplete if the book doesn't have heart. Crichton's books don't have heart they only have ... caution.

The heart is in the caution, Paolo. Why bother cautioning anyone if you are an emotionless robot? Chrichton writes with loads of emotional impact and understanding, just not the soame way some other writers do. He's much more subtle, and much more in the "show don't tell" camp than almost anyone I've ever read.

It's true, he is a cautionary writer and tells some very controversial stories. His writing isn't of the high literary caliber that many hack critics in the New York Slimes would prefer to hold him to because they disagree with his assessment of one policy or another. The fact is that Chrichton makes a cognizant decision to write about some very complicated topics for a very wide audience, and he has to make some sacrifices to do so.

I am now on page 63 of NEXT, and so far it is very good, and very, very interesting. Where STATE OF FEAR was largely about global warming, you could say that NEXT tackles the very controversial topic of stem cell research, although in true Chrichton style, it doesn't just end there or stay satisfied with that, and it is fast paced and fascinating.

Hmmm... something to think about.

Anyway, I've always thought of Crichton's works as one of the FASTEST PACED anyone can read.

I just never looked at things in that way you've shared your insights now.
