I am really enjoing the Alex Cross series, ok so as the books progress the plots become more far fetched. But to be honest, i don't really care. I enjoy reading his books, so i class him to be a good writer.

I agree with you music man. Patterson's an enjoyable writer, and I think he deserves credit for his plotting skills, which are tremendous.

I've only read two books by this guy, but I think it still qualifies me to vote in this poll question.

One was called Black Friday, and it was rubbish. The other one was so bad I can't even remember the title.

My answer is a resounding NO. James Patterson is not a good writer. He's so bad he should be arrested and made to work in the prison laundry washing inmate underwear. He is technically either the laziest or just one of the dumbest writers around, and I'm not buying any of that "his plotting is good" nonsense, because the plots are derived directly from a "How To Write Bestselling Fiction" suspense template, with only the names and places changed from book to book. THe guy is a hack, a fraud, and when he even bothers to actually write the books that have his name on the covers, he proves that his lack of skill prevents him from being any better than the tripe-producing romance novelists that jam the shelves at supermarkets and airports. His work will never be remembered, and the world will be a better place when he no longer infects it with his abhorrent "fiction."

But tell us how you really feel? lol Like you, I read two of his books but that was enough--after researching all were written in the same "style"--to let me know I was done with him.

I don't think his novels are really that bad at all. Not great, but they are consistently entertaining for the most part. And Patterson is hardly the only writer to put his name on books that are not his own work. At least he's honest about what he's doing, and he pays his ghostwriters very well.
