Yeah, at least GoF movie wasn't confusing. OoTP movie was terribly messed up. My husband didn't read the books and he was completely clueless most of the time. The whole Occlumency thing was glossed over too, and Harry never got to confront Sirius about the way they treated Snape, so I suppose he never got closure on that according to the movie. Also the big battle was a disappointment as compared to the book.

Wow!! Totally awesome!!

I finished GOF last night and it was awesome. I think FE was right when he said earlier in this thread that this is the beginning of a runaway train that you can't stop. I fear that I am not going to be able to take a break after this one after all...I'm going to have to read 5, 6, and 7 in rapid (as rapid as I can) succession.

I can't imagine having to wait 3 years between books 4 and 5...that sounds like utter torture!!

Ok...I don't even know where to start in this one...I felt like I was in a haze for the whole last 30 pages...after Voldemort's return that is.

That whole scene with Voldemort was just scary...every time I think I know what is going on Rowling throws me another curve. When Voldemort is talking about his faithful servant at Hogwarts at first I was thinking SNAPE!! but then I thought...no wait that's what she wants you to think...it's KARKAROFF...he's at Hogwarts right now!! And of course...neither of those were correct.

I don't know how to sum up my thoughts...I'm too overwhelmed.

I loved:
- The Triwizard Tournament...I loved the anticipation leading up to all the tasks.

- Mad-Eye Moody!! I loved his character the whole book...I was semi-disappointed when you find out that he's not the real Moody just because I liked him so much up to that point...so...I'd like to think that Crouch Jr. did an excellent job of impersonating Moody and the real Moody would have acted much the same during many of his scenes in the book.

-the background that you find out about Hagrid

- in the end when Dumbledore starts handing out orders left and right...I'm so excited about "the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared" springing into action and unleashing the greatness.

- All the new spells and magical stuff...very interesting learning about the Unforgivable Curses.

I loved to hate:

- Freakin' Malfoy...I mean I know he's a jerk and all, but up to this point I just saw him as a brat/bully...at the end when he comes into the train compartment and pretty much just sides with Voldemort right there you get to see the inherent evil...I love that Harry and everybody just blast them with curses because they just don't care anymore.

- Rita Skeeter...annoying wench.

- Snape! This character is sheer brilliance...he is so mean to Harry and I just want to hurt him! But then Dumbledore (who you love and trust implicitly) places total faith in him. So...definitely extremely well-written by Rowling on this one.

- Wormtail...I can't wait until that little bastard goes down...I just can't wait. I only hope that Sirius can clear his name using Wortail/Pettigrew/Scabbers before he dies!

- Fudge - I don't hate Fudge...but his blind ignorance in the final chapters made it close.

Things that were just okay:

- S.P.E.W. - I could have done without the whole Elf Liberation thing and most of the scenes with the House-Elves as well...I just don't like it when they're talking...I don't know why...they remind me of Yoda I think.

There's so much stuff that I've left out, but I know this is already an insanely long post...so sorry.

Anyway, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire gets an 11/10.

What about Barty Crouch Jr...he got the kiss of death from the Dementor...right?

That's what I believe at this point...so don't tell me if he comes back later in book 5 or something! Just say...oh yeah...I forgot about him.

Great thoughts, Einstein! You are in for a real treat with the next book. Three years of waiting...that was the worst three years of my life! j/k

Technically, the Dementor's Kiss doesn't kill the person. Sucks the soul out, so basically he is hollow. That's all I'm saying.

How about that 'glint of triumph' that Harry sees in Dumbledore's eye? I was dying to know what that meant when I read that.

Dang, are they ever going to keep a DADA teacher?

The Triwizard Tournament, I think, is what made this one a real fan favorite. It sets it apart from the rest of the books. Plus the Dark Lord rises again, that may also have some impact on that. But I still say that the 5th year at Hogwarts is the best year!

Great book! Gotta read The Yule Ball chapter soon.

The third book is the only book that doesn't have a death in it.

Harry gives his money to Fred and George!
