I'm still counting down the days until the second book of Frankenstein comes out next month. The ending did leave us all hanging in the first book, but isn't the anticipation to continue the story overwhelming? (Well, at least for us that enjoyed the story.)

Just finished it.

I'm not sure if the references to other Koontz's work bordered on corny, or annoying; a "perfectionist" named Roy (Dark Rivers of the Heart), and 2 main characters who are reminiscent of the detective love team in Dragon Tears or even Darkfall. But I really liked Deucalion as the sleight of reality, sleight of space abilities; an obvious nod to Tom Vanadium; and although; in my opinion lacking screen time, Deucalion is the most interesting character of the book.

I also liked Erika Four; the progression of her character; her own insights into the "Old Race" and finally a very dramatic and brutal scene during the denouement of this character are worth the price of the book alone, to me.

Koontz doesn't even need to recapitulate into some of the themes that he always always writes about, because in this book is a grotesque caricature of the antithesis of those themes; and you'll discover for yourself the folly of Victor (or many of Koontz's iconic villains of the past) ideologies.

If Book Two is out there some where, I might pick it up - so I can be set once Frank 3 comes out next year.

9/10
