Hi, my name is Hilda St James and i have just self publised a book. I never got much feedback from others and I would like to know what people think about my story. I'd really appreciate it if you post my work so others can tell me what they think. The title of my book is "shadows of the past" by Hilda St.James

excerpt from shadows of the past:

Brandon stripped her fingers of all the artificial rings she was wearing.         "Wait. Not this one,"she said, taking back the one with a pink stone.this one was a reminder of Lydia. He asked no questions as she slipped it back on, feeling guilty. He was surely wondering why that ring. What was she going to tell him?Another lie?                                                                                          He looked at her in silence, as though waiting for some kind of explanation.Sarah's thoughts went around in circles. She had to tell him something. It wasn't fair to leave him wondering. He had always been so honest with her.Why couldn,t she do the same with him?                        "Sarah .Please tell me why that ring is so special.I know that there are things that you don't want to talk about and i have never forced you.I know that you will eventually tell me."                                                                                   She got the impression that Brandon was jealous and that he wanted to be sure that the ring did not remind her of another man.she couldn't tell him that she had bought it as a reminder of the daughter she had given up for adoption! She had never told him about her child! Yet denying thaat she had a child made her feel guilty. It was like abandoning her daughter all aover again.       "It's kind of a silly reason,"she said, still not sure what that reason would be.She hoped that Brandon would not see through her fake smile.            "What is it?" he insisted.                                                                              "My brother gave it to me after I graduated from nursing school. It was meant as a joke but I always kept it on."She turned her attention to the ring Brandon was holding between two fingers, diamonds glittering in the dark. She didn't deserve it and even if she accepted, for how long would she wear it?               He took her ring finger and slid the ring on. "This is a token of my love"     "Are you sure...well...you want to give me this?" She felt special, loved, wanted.                                                                                                           He answered her with a kiss on the lips.                                                        She wondered if Stacey had ever worn it but did not ask.As though reading her thoughts,he said,"Stacey never wore it.You are the one I love."                "I love you Brandon." She moved closer, their bodies touching.                     "I wish it was my mother's ring instead of my grandmother's. I mean my natural mother. It would be so much more special. My mother brought me into this world and then abandoned me.I detest her and all women like her.I would never have anything to do with a woman like that!"                                  Sarah's heart, mind and soul froze over for a few seconds. She was one of those women! In the deep quietness of the night, she heard the faint chiming of the grandfather clock. It was like fate was saying this was the end.Sarah felt her soul slipping out, like marbles from abroken bag.Tears rolled down her cheeks. This was the end.                                                                     Brandon took her in his arms.                                                                   "I'm so happy with you,Brandon,"she said, resting her head on his shoulder.
