I thought it was clever too FE. DK is subtle even when it appears to be loud with symbolic religious elements. DK left the scenes to be interpreted both ways by means of science or faith. I think that helped make the book effective like you were mentioning. The only 2 elemenst that he left to be explained by only the supernatural were the "heat-browned issue of Arts American," and Hatch's unexplained knowledge of Vassago and Uriel. Of course, I lean toward the faith based option.
I'm inclined to believe in parallel worlds filled with dark bound Snow and Odd adventures.

This is a nice article that was printed recently on April 11, 2010 and pointed out to me. The interview was originally published on March 6, 2007. I had never read it before. I love to read Dean Koontz discussing this subject. Here is the link in case you haven't seen it if you are interested.
