Sounds interesting. I got this off his fantastic fiction page.

Recently voted the greatest fantasy of all time after The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Gene Wolfe's The Book of the New Sun.

Why haven't I heard of him until now?

I tried to read THE KNIGHT last year and didn't like it at all but then I'm not a huge fantasy fan and it's what I'd call hardcore fantasy.

I also tried to read THE KNIGHT and couldn't get into it.

I know Neil Gaiman is a huge fan of Gene Wolfe and many people consider him to be the best all-around writer of speculative fiction. But he is more of a cult writer than a popular writer.

That's the only reason I picked it up, because Gaiman mentions his books quite often. I've picked up quite a few he's mentioned, some have been very hard to find.

i just picked up his book of new sun, long sun and short sun books simply because GRRM quoted him as far and beyond superior to most anything he has read. GRRM also had good stuff to say about jacqueline carey's kushiel's books which i loved. if GRRM recommends a book, even yet LAUDS a book, im sure as hell going to read it
