I finished it yesterday but couldn't access the site to post.

I thought it was fantastic!

Spoilers through last half

********************************************

I thought the peeling away of photos on Harker's wall was pretty interesting about who all he had up and searching for any philosophy to fill the void in him.

Victor is terrible. Not a villian to laugh at much. The baby rat dinner... [xx(]. He even likes to torture his food.

Erika's demise was sad but it sure was satisfying to see how it affected Victor when she said "I forgive you for this. But I will never forgive you for having made me."

I was hoping for more character development with Carson and her brother Arnie. Maybe that will happen in F-2 or DK doesn't want to resemble BTLOTM too much. I loved that book too.

You ever feel like Randall 6 when you get hold of a shopping cart? [:P]

Anyway, I thought the whole book was fantastic. I was disoriented at first with the style because I had just finished a GRRM book that is very wordy. When I started F-1 I thought I was going in fast forward. It definitely had a fast thriller movie pace to it. I can see how it would work well with a series. Too bad USA Network wanted to change it up which made Martin Scorsese and DK lose interest and withdraw from it.

I'm ready for F-2 now and just started it.
I'm inclined to believe in parallel worlds filled with dark bound Snow and Odd adventures.

Right now it's Erika for me, I think she has some real potential. It'll be interesting to see where all this goes and how it all ties in. I'm on chapter 51 right now. That's another thing I like about this book, nice short tight chapters with no silly dialog or endless boring descriptions. (yet)

I feel bad for her right now, she can't seem to live up to Victor's expectations. She does have potential though.

I don't have a favorite character yet. Carson is kick@$$ and I love brother/sister stories. Arnie having a mental handicap makes it especially endearing to me. Her partner Micheal makes me laugh! Roy is one of those absurd villians that humors the reader with his self absorption while disgusting us at the same time with wickedness. But Victor! He's so dark and terrifies me. Those scenes with him and Erika and her trying to accommodated and please him while he dominates and controls her fills me with such anxiety. I wanted to throw the soup in Victor's face. I'm pleased that you think her character will develop. I want to see her get away. I think I'll have a thing for Deucalion. I was obsessed with Phantom of the Opera so this reminds me of that. Maybe he'll end up with Erika or help save her. I can always hope. Oh, and Randall Six, he's going to be a threat to Arnie with his creepy obsession with that photo.

Micheal just made that Herman Munster joke in the autopsy lab. He's funny.

I love the New Orleans setting! I've been there with my parents and it brings back memories.

I like the brisk chapters too. Gives it a fast pace. But I love DK's descriptive style too. Whatever he wants to give us, I always enjoy it either way.

Michael is funny with some of his remarks, you and Patti will have to let me know him and Carson make it into the second book.
I'm wondering since you and Patti have finished if Arnie's castle has meaning....wait don't tell me LOL.

I've been having trouble getting on also.

I finished it and was disappointed in the latter part of the book. I thought it had alot of potential and was going to be magnificent but it wasn't for me.

major spoilers in white
It reminded me of a GRRM book the way major interesting characters were killed, which is fine because it's unpredictable but they weren't replaced with any interesting new ones. So we were left with Carson and Michael and Victor. The Deucalion and Arnie characters haven't been built up yet so there really isn't much new stuff yet...

The baby rat dinner was just so gross and unexpected, I thought it was going to be live monkey brains or something - EEWWW!
