At first I would have disagreed with you, when reading Body Rides, but I think it was just an initial reaction. But now after having only read two of his books I would completely agree with the statement. |

I feel weird saying that as I am a big Laymon fan, I just realize that he has limitations as a writer. HIs books are sort of the equivalent of B-grade horror films. The difference between him and someone like John Saul is that Saul doesn't seem to realize he is writing B-grade horror stories, whereas Laymon realized it, embraced it, and had a hell of a good time doing it, which I think translates to the reader.

That definitely seems to be the case with my limited experience with both authors. I also realize that Laymon's newer books probably won't be as good since they are not complete, and completed by others. I've heard Koontz actually worked on them. The Lake wasn't that good, and if Koontz worked on it, he didn't help it much. It just didn't have that Laymon feel. I guess Koontz should stay away from that kind of writing.

I hadn't heard that. God, I hope he doesn't get the VC Andrews treatment, who is more prolific in death than she ever was in life. I know Koontz was a friend of Laymon's, which may explain why he would do such a thing, but I think we should just be happy with the works Laymon left us, and there were plenty.
