This book is probably my favorit Dean Koontz book ever.  Maybe its because I have a fascination with psychological disorders or just that the plot was really good, when I started the book, I literally didn't sleep for 3 days because i was reading.  Its so memorable and I enjoyed it alot.  Everyone should read it.

This book was very interesting. Great, believable story line. I loved the characters and they were well developed as well.

However, it was a little longer than it needed to be. I know a book is wonderful when I can't put it down and there were times when I felt like he was losing me so I would have to skip ahead a little.

But that could be due to my short attention span. Or possibly, I was expecting waay too much out of it even before beginning to read it.

Well, after reading this book, I felt like I had been there, in the story with Martie and Susan. I have suffered from Anxiety and Panick attacks for over 3 years. It's a condition I developed after my child had passed away. Reading this book, was like reading a diary of my own attacks. I could not understand how Mr. Koontz understood these razor precise feelings of panick attacks. You would think one would have to experience it to be able to write it, but it was perfectly written. Amazing. Besides that, he wrote about the coolest way to kill people that I could have ever imagined. What an idea to write about. The whole hiaku took me half the book to connect with each character. My favorite part of the book is when Martie and Dusty faked their submissions in Arhiman's office, I didn't expect that.

i totally agree that most of his books, start out fast and end abruptly.   I read this book a few years ago, but i loved it.   The whole mind control, hyptno thing freaked me out, and this was a scary bad guy, and the characters were lovable and quirky.

********Contains Spoilers*******

The battle of ordinary folk against the elite of society, with a few sociopathic events thrown in. A simple concept constructed beautifully. The characters were believeable, the storyline flowed as naturally as most of Koontz's novels, though the conclusion left me a bit disappointed.

Although I was happy that the good guys won, and the bad guys got killed, the way it completed was a bit of a rush job in my opinion - like he needed to wrap up the story. Where an entire 24hrs was written in 500 pages, the last 300 pages were a bunch of quick action scenes and many years afterwards. Whether Koontz was going for the Hollywood movie deal or not, I think it'd make a great movie.
