What I thought was funny was when I read cold fire, I was looking at the cover thinking "This artist sucks he does not know where light should be and reflections should show up"
Then I read the book and I'll be dammed if it wasn't done for a reason. |

With luck my patience will never run out before I do

This is an intriguing question. I dont make a full on judgement based on a cover however, for example, i have quite a few unread dk books, so when i finish one and its time to pick out a new one, which is sometimes difficult to do, the cover definitly tends to play a part in what i pick. Also, the dk books with new covers and afterwords, i seem to always want those when im out buying books because they have the nicer covers, while the books from the 70's like funhourse, the vision, etc i tend to stray from because of their outdated and ugly designs, lol. Although speaking of that, i need to get a batch of them and start throwing them into my mix of books to read now, i want to mix up the great, good, okay, and bad books, so im not left with all of the lesser works...

Unfortunately, I do actually judge by covers. Especially fantasy, I'm a sucker for an amazing and colorful fantasy drawing. I loved the covers of Terry Brooks' novels and I started reading them. Same with Koontz, I loved the cover of Lightning and started reading it. One book I thought had a cool cover was The Little Friend by Donna Tart, it had a creepy doll on the cover, couldn't get through it. Mostly, nowadays I go online and research the books before I buy or checkout at the library.

I can't say that I do judge books by their covers. Although that probably happened with my first Koontz book. It was the first book that I ever picked up without knowing anything about anything. When I say this it is because until I found Koontz I wasn't a reader. I was just browsing and the book caught my eye and said read me. After I read that first Koontz book I was hooked on anything he wrote.
It wasn't until after I met my husband that I started reading other authors. He recommended some others so I read those. I don't look for book covers now only authors. |

The cover is sometimes important. I love detailed covers more than the abstract ones.
For example: Now I'm reading Darkfall. My book has this cover, whis is really great: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8b/DarkfallK.jpg/200px-DarkfallK.jpg But this cover is really boring: http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/prod_lrg_images/120/202797120.jpg |
