QUOTE FROM Christophersnow:I would say that Hyperion is somewhat of a hardcore sf book in that it uses a lot of terms that only the characters would understand due to the time they live in. But after a while, the context the words are used in gives meaning to them, and the stories flow nicely. All of the amazing ideas in the story make it a good read for anybody, not just sf fans.

Good information to know, but you think I'd manage alright? I'm just becoming aquainted with sci-fi.

You should be able to make it. When you read some words that you don't really know what they are, don't worry, just keep reading. Eventually, they will be used in enough situations that you will get an understanding of their nature. Mainly these words are used to describe certain technology of the time period. Some of the terms are just every day words that you and I would use, like LOL, that somebody of a different time wouldn't understand. You get used to it, and it's well worth it.

Or if you've ever watched Star Trek or Stargate. I didn't find it hard at all once I got past the first chapter.
