Yeah, Spike's song is one of the best!
I love the episode when Buffy just came to his crypt and he says that he's not affected by singing. Then his song begins he says: "I died..." and in a the next moment he has that priceless look like "Oh no, here comes the damn song!". Andy |

SPECTACULAR episode! I have a hunch that this topic will heat up considerably in June, when Season 6 comes out on DVD in the States. Buffy had crossed more than a couple of genres before this episode came out, but going musical was a stroke of genius. Along with "Hush" and "The Body," "Once More With Feeling" shows Joss Whedon's phenomenal talent for tempting the shark without jumping it. A few of my favorite moments: 1) The hokey musical-style camerawork in Buffy's song, "going through the motions." Buffy sings, "Nothing seems to penetrate my heart" as she impales a vamp, then sings her final aria through the parting "clouds" af a second vampire's disintegrating body. 2) "I have a theory," when Tara does the "Broadway Hands" thing to illustrate Willow's notion that they're all "trapped inside a crazy Broadway nightmare." 3) Tara's censor-defying lyrics in "I'm Under Your Spell," culminating with her assertion (lying flat on her back in bed, looking orgasmic) that she's "lost in ecstacy/spread beneath my Willow-tree" 4) Xander's censor-befuddling lyric (looking salaciously down Anya's body "warm in the night when I'm right in her tight. . . *embrace!* Tight embrace." 5) The dancin' demon's line: "I can bring whole cities to ruin/ and still have time to get a soft shoe in!" 6) Giles singing a tender, fatherly hymn to his concern for Buffy while he's throwing knives at her. 7) Tara's disgusted refrain of "I'm Under Your Spell" late in the episode when she realizes that she really *is* a victim of Willow's enchantments. 8) Buffy's last number, when she accuses the demon [and us!] of voyuerism ("life's a show, and and we all play a part. . .it's all right if some things come out wrong/we'll sing a happy song/and [looking dead at the camera] you can sing along") and her friends [and us]of being unwilling to let her go. |
