I had seen the movies 100 times (kids) and when I read OOTP I was flabbergasted at how much was removed. I actually read this book last after DH and I really did not think I had missed that much, but my lord I am wondering how they are going to save the next to books when they make them into movies.
They are going to have to do a bit of backtracking or leave a ton out. A wee bit scared am I at that. The entire Umbridge thing was stupid. They have taken Dobby's role out of the last couple books, they also stole a bunch of Fred and George's glory. They made Sirius seem like he was much more out of the picture. Most of all the way Harry hears the prophesy is stupid, and may ruin the next couple of movies. Sorry but I have yet to be able to speak to another person who has read the books since I have read them. I may be a bit overexcited. But bewareI may have more to add later. (not that anyone is on these pages anymore, I think I waited a bit too long to read these books.) |

I thought the movie version of OOTP was great at capturing the essence of the book. Yes, there was a lot they left out, but there was a lot to leave out. I actually prefer the movie's version of Fred's and George's exit from the school. Having the read the books in July, I agree, now, that leaving Dobby out was too bad. Kreacher had a bigger role in the book, too.

I think that leaving Dobby out of all the books since the second is going to render his role in the final book unnecessary and expect e won't be in it.

That's the reality of film adaptations to be honest- they have to judge what is apparently more important in a story, thus cutting our characters and storylines of the authors creation...such is life though - if done well it can be brilliant (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest), if done badly on the other hand...
