I'm reading Order of the Phoenix right now, and it is so rich and complex and dark, and the movie seemed so skimpy and shallow by comparison. Does anyone else think the director's determination--I read this in an interview--to make this the shortest of the films was a huge mistake. I mean, it's one of the longest books in the series--if not THE longest--and I don't understand the director's decision to make it the shortest film.

This is what the director actually said about this:

"The film has got to be as long as it needs to be. Our story felt right at this length and just personally, sometimes I think big films overstay their welcome a wee bit. I have the attention span of an 8-year-old and in a big blockbuster film I sometimes find myself fidgeting and thinking, ‘Gosh, when is this going to be over?’ We thought it was important not to overstay our welcome."

There were vital parts of the plot that didn't get explained. I know people who hadn't read the book that didn't understand what was going on,and I had to explain it to them based on what I knew from the book. I agree a movie shouldn't overstay its welcome, but you have to make it long enough to make sure it makes sense.

This is why I stopped watching the movies. Besides them changing some parts so that I got certain parts mixed up, like what happened in the movie I thought happened in the book, and that ruins it for me. My friend says they left out Dumbledore taking on the five ministry wizards, the coolest scene in Harry Potter history.
